If you are completely happy and life is simply humming along, this blog isn’t for you. In fact, it probably would better for you not to read it because I wouldn’t want you to read anything that might rob your joy.

A couple of years ago I wanted to have a special conversation with my Susan, on our Valentine Dinner date. With that in mind I asked one of my close guy friends that I’m doing life with what the best way to approach this might be. After we had a healthy conversation, we talked about how special are wives are and that it would be good if we would have something to remind us regularly as to how we can love our wives the Bible instructs us to. After meditating on Ephesian 5:26 “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her”, the acronym GARTH came into my mind. So what is GARTH? Gentle Adoring Reassuring Tender Humble As I was reflecting on Ephesians 5, I noticed further instructions for the household in verse 22, “Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.” Then when you toss in Col 3:12-14 “Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you”, it looks like WE ALL have some great guidelines as to how we are to treat each other, doesn’t it? With Valentine’s Day approaching quickly, it seems like our instruction manual speaks to both genders, doesn’t it? With this in mind, will you be GARTH to your loved ones this Valentine’s Day and every other day for that matter? |
